Department Of Sanskrit
About the Department
The Department of Sanskrit is one of the oldest and most esteemed departments of Dibru College. Established in 1963, the department began its journey alongside the founding of the college with two eminent scholars — Late Ganesh Bihari Sharma and Late Bhabendra Nath Bhattacharyya — as the pioneering faculty members. Initially offering only a Pass Course in Sanskrit, the department took a significant academic leap by introducing a Major course in Sanskrit from 2005. Official permission for this was granted on 21st October 2005.
Currently, the department is headed by Dr. Himadri Sarma and supported by Dr. Adity Baruah, both of whom hold M.A. and Ph.D. degrees and are actively involved in academic development and student mentoring.
Over the years, the department has been enriched by the dedicated service of many distinguished former faculty members:

Collaborations & Initiatives:
In a major step toward promoting Sanskrit learning, the department signed an MoU with the Central Sanskrit University in 2023, becoming an official study centre under the university. This collaboration opens new avenues for students and Sanskrit enthusiasts in the region.
To foster literary engagement and creative expression:
- The department has been publishing an annual research journal, Sanskrit Sanskriti (ISSN 2349-8943), since 2003.
- In 2024, it launched an e-magazine titled Kisalaya, prepared exclusively by students, providing a platform for budding writers and scholars.
Vision and Mission:
The Department of Sanskrit is committed to the holistic development of its students and the promotion of Sanskrit language and literature. It envisions expanding the scope of Sanskrit studies in the region, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling a deep appreciation for the classical language.
