College History
The growth of higher education in this eastern most district of India received a new dimension with the establishment of the Dibrugarh College which ultimately became nucleus of the present group of Kanoi Colleges in the town of Dibrugarh. This removed a long felt pressing demand of the people to a large extent. The dawn of independence in India and the new urge and opportunities created by it widened the scope of higher educational facilities. More number of people hither to deprive of this privilege aspired to receive the blessing of higher education.
With the growth of new educational complex in the Dibrugarh town it was also felt that there should be an independent educational institution of a status of Degree College wholly sponsored and patronised by the general public of the town. In the light of this urge some enthusiastic young men led by Shri N.L.Borgohain, Saifuddin Ahmed, Keshab Sharma, Sri Sarat Borkakaty and others took momentous decision to start a new college and accordingly, a public meeting was convened by Sri N.L.Borgohain at Amolapatty Natya Mandir, on 25th Sept 1962. The college started functioning with effect from 16TH August 1963, as the Dibru College, in the premises of the George Institution, Dibrugarh and later on to its own premises. The Govt. of Assam brought the college under Deficit system of Grant-in-aid in 1972.
